Porsche 928, which was named ‘land shark’ due to its ability to eat up the road in less time, is enjoying the limelight as it gets favorable attention from car fanatics of today’s time. Aficionados are still flabbergasted by the fastest car in the whole world. Its long existence and rocketing sales are just few of the reasons why Porsche 928 is said to be hotter than before.

Porsche has pioneered lots of technical features in vehicles. Moreover, said features were incorporated in its flagship deluxe coupe. Designed in the year 1971 to eventually replace 911, Porsche 928 was finally released to the public in 1977 at the Geneva Motor Show. Said car was named “International Car of the Year”. The car’s design was based on the transaxle principle where the engine was placed in front of the car and the gearbox. The extensive testing and experimentation resulted in a car with superb standards in steering, brakes, and suspension.

The car was a front-engined, water-cooled, 4.5 Litre V8 with a rear transaxle. It also has ABS, 2+2 seats, air-conditioning system, polyurethane bumpers, bigger luggage space, and other extras. The production of Porsche 928 comes in 5 series – the 928, 928 S, 928 S4, 928 GT and finally 928 GTS.

In the process, said car went through significant changes. Its shaped was smoothened to augment its aerodynamics. Flush tail lights and new wing were also incorporated in the car to yield better look and performance. To perfect the car, luxurious accessories for a Porsche were added.

When it comes to performance, Porsche 928 has a great weight distribution and a new powerful V8 to do better than other Porches. It is fast, sporty, fun and convenient to drive. Nonetheless, since Porsche 928 is considered a hot car, expect it to be delivered in a hefty price. The model is the most expensive car of Porsche in the market these days.

Porsche 968 is basically the successor of the Porsche 944. It has a low nose and wide wheel arches that helps accentuating the beautiful lines of this classic shape that in a Porsche Guards Red is a real head turner. It has also the classic GT front engine, rear wheel drive layout with the added advantage of a rear transaxle giving almost perfect weight distribution.

Instead of the hidden headlights of the 944, the 968 has visible pop up headlights, similar to the Porsche 928. This brings the look of the car inline with the new Porsche 997-911. This change has also a practical advantage: the headlights can be washed along with the rest of the car instead of having to pop them up to wash them.

As for the interior, it remains the same as produced in the 944, keeping the famous “oval dash”. The designers used the same robust materials which have given all Porsche owners many years of trouble free motoring.

The exterior has a few differences: the door mirrors have been streamlined with the tear drop effect and the wheels have 5 spoke Cup design alloys. The rear bumper is more blended and with integral rear light clusters, making it almost indistinguishable from the bodywork. All these bodywork changes made the 968 look a lot like the 928, and added the engine heritage, some people have referred to it as “the daughter of 928″.

The engine is a version of the one first used on the 944 S2: it is a 4 cylinder, 3 liter, 16 valve unit. And they added VarioCam for optimum power throughout the speed range. It has 240 HP at 6200 rpm and a torque of 305 Nm at 4100 rpm, given by the improved combustion chamber and inlet manifold design. At the time of production, it was a remarkable engine, having the highest displacement per cylinder of any car engine and also the highest torque output of any unblown 3 liter engine. Clearly, the result of Porsches investment in this engine paid off.

The rear-mounted gearbox is a 6-speed manual or 4 speed tiptronic. It is the first ever mounted on a production car. The chassis has almost perfect weight distribution and very stiff characteristics.

Usually, most cars start to fail when it comes to breaks and the reason is that it doesn’t matter how fast the car is in a straight line if you can’t take a bend (turn) at the right safe speed. But Porsche brakes have always been the envy of most road sports car manufacturers. You will notice little or no or no discernable fatigue even under harsh use of Porsche 968. ABS adds even more safety to the already excellent braking system. Also, what makes the brakes so effective is that the wheels themselves are designed to prevent the tire from coming off the rim in the event of a sudden pressure loss.

Porsche is such an amazing company that manages to earn great profit out from their small line of expensive cars and aside from the fact that their sports cars continue to be among the top selling models in the market. Porsche’s first-generation Cayenne has been one the company’s successful models and that is even before the debut of the 2008 Cayenne at the Detroit Auto Show.

The 2008 Cayenne range contains little changes but is equipped with top-of-the-line Porsche parts which simply show that Stuttgart’s designers are more concerned with quality and not so much into dramatic restyling. The 2008 Cayenne has an overall shape that is aggressive and slightly refreshed but can be instantly recognized as a Porsche Cayenne. The visible changes are seen up front, where the headlights are given a sharper design while the air intakes are enlarged.

The $94k Cayenne Turbo model which is a top-of-the-line model gets the LED light cluster-bars from the 911 Turbo which according to Porsche will remain a distinctive design feature that will differentiate turbo models across the range. The said features are said to be much better, design-wise than the huge ducts and vents on the ongoing Cayenne Turbo which differentiates it from the base Cayenne and Cayenne S.

Facts on the Porsche Cayenne

The Porsche Cayenne is a mid-size luxury SUV manufactured by the German automaker Porsche since 2002. It is also the first V8-engined vehicle produced by Porsche since 1995– the same year when Porsche 928 was discontinued. The sales of the Cayenne as of June 2005 has reached 100,000 – considered to be the one of Porsche’s best selling vehicle in the North America and covered 40% of Cayenne’s total North American sales. However by 2006 the sales of Cayenne declined.

The design of the Cayenne was developed in partnership with Volkswagen which at the time was looking for a sports utility vehicle to add to their lineup. Volkswagen has shared its E chassis to boost their Touareg sports utility vehicle. The Cayenne shares only its base engine with the Touareg while Porsche’s version is substantially modified. At present there are four engines available in the Cayenne and these are as follows:

•	3.2 L 240 PS (237 hp/177 kW) VR6 from Volkswagen (Based on the unit offered in the VW but with modifications made to the intake, exhaust, timing systems and head)

•	4.5 L 340 PS (335 hp/250 kW) V8 (S)

•	4.5 L 450 hp (340 kW) 460 ft•lbf (624 N•m) twin-turbocharged V8 (Turbo)

•	4.5 L 500 hp (370 kW) 515 ft•lbf (698 N•m) T equipment twin-turbocharged V8

•	4.5 L 521 hp (389 kW) 531 ft•lbf (720 N•m) twin-turbocharged V8 (Turbo S)

Most vehicles that are referred as sports cars are rear-wheel drive, have two seats, two doors, and are designed for acceleration and aesthetics. While buying a sports car, customers generally give importance to brand name. Some of the important brand names include Ferrari, Porsche, Lotus and Lamborghini. Performance modifications of regular production cars, such as sport compacts, sports sedans, muscle cars, hot hatches and the like generally are not considered sports cars, yet share traits common to sports car. A sports car does not require large, powerful engine.

Some sports cars have small back seats that are really only suitable for luggage or small children. Different types of sports car include coupe, fuel cell sports car, grand tourer, hot hatch, muscle car, roadster, sport compact, sports car racing, sports sedan and super car. The different sports Coupes include Audi TT 225 Quattro Coupe, BMW M3 Coupe, and Porsche 911 993 Carr era. Many auto shipping companies do ship these vehicles from one state to another state. These types of sports car are very expensive so special care has to be taken while they are being transported. People generally go in for enclosed auto shipping because their car would be protected from sun, heat, air, snow, rain etc. A little more money would be spent in enclosed vehicle shipping when compared to open transport. A fuel cell sports car is a future vehicle anticipated to arrive with the advent of sophisticated hydrogen fuel cell technology. Production of fuel cell vehicles has been limited.

A grand tourer car is used for long distance driving. These cars are different from the typical sports cars because they are usually larger, heavier, and tend to make less compromise in comfort for the sake of driving ability. Some of the grand tourer cars are BMW 8 Series, Mercedes-Benz SL-Class, Porsche 928, Toyota 2000GT, and Volvo 780. A hot hatch is an informal or slang term for a high performance derivative of a three door automobile. Some of the hot hatch sports car includes Volkswagen Lupo, Volkswagen Polo, and Volvo C30. Muscle car is a term used to refer to a variety of high performance automobiles. It generally describes a 2 door rear wheel drive mid-size car with a large, powerful V8 engine and at an affordable price. Some of the muscle car includes LX platform, Mercury Grand Marquis etc. A roadster is a two seater car, traditionally without a roof and no side or rear windows. Vehicle shipping companies do ship all types of sports car. They provide both enclosed and open transport shipping services.

The Porsche Cayenne is a large SUV (sports utility vehicle) from German car manufacturer, Porsche. It is available with a choice of petrol engines and has five seats, five doors and four-wheel drive. The Cayenne is available with both manual and automatic (tiptronic) gearboxes. Its four-wheel system can send 100 per cent of the engine’s power, in any mix, between the front and rear axles. A low-range gearbox is also standard.

PORSCHE CAYENNE HISTORY

The Porsche Cayenne concept was announced in 1998 and came into production in 2002. It was the first large family-type vehicle that Porsche had made after having a long history of just producing roadsters and sports cars. The Cayenne was co-developed with Volkswagen, who was keen to add a sports utility vehicle to their extensive line-up as a cost-sharing initiative. In terms of design, the Cayenne has many similarities to the VW Touareg and the Audi Q7

TYPES

The Porsche Cayenne is available in five different variants. The entry level model is the standard Porsche Cayenne. Next is the Cayenne S. This is followed by the Cayenne GTS and then there are the two top-of-the-range models; the Cayenne Turbo and Cayenne Turbo S. All of the Cayenne vehicles are powered by petrol engines. The entry level model has a 3.6-litre V6 (232 PS) unit. The S and GTS models use 4.8-litre V8 units (385 and 405 PS). The Cayenne Turbo and Turbo S models use 4.8-litre twin-turbo charged V8 units (500 PS and 550 PS respectively).
